Today is the second annual #GivingTuesday, a day designed for all of us to make charitable donations after the mass-consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Of course, there are countless organizations out there worthy of our support, but if you’ll indulge me, I have a suggestion of a cause in need of backing.
As we all know, diabetes has become a major health concern in this country, with over 25 million Americans currently dealing with the disease. In my Houston podiatrist office, I see many patients who struggle to maintain their foot health while dealing with diabetes. Whether peripheral neuropathy has left you with decreased sensation in your feet or you have concerns about preventing or treating foot ulcers, if you have diabetes in Houston, you will need to work closely with a seasoned podiatrist like Dr. Andrew Schneider.
Of course there is an alternative to endless doctor appointments and constant concerns about diabetic foot health: with well-funded diabetes research, we can hope to stamp out many cases of the disease, or at the very least, develop new and better tools to manage the various side effects associated with this prevalent illness.
As I said earlier, along with diabetes research, there are numerous causes in need of all our support on this Giving Tuesday; diabetes research is just one of them, albeit a worthy one. The key to this special day is to do something for others, so in addition to supporting your favorite charity this Giving Tuesday, I urge you to encourage the diabetic in your life to take control of his or her foot health and schedule an appointment at Tanglewood Foot Specialists as soon as possible.
