A special sis deserves healthy, happy feet!In case you didn’t know it, today is National Sisters Day, so it’s the perfect day to do something nice for your female sibling(s).

Want to hear this Houston podiatrist’s suggestion for your good deed of the day? Why not help your sister feel more comfortable in her day-to-day life by gifting her with some sage advice on women’s foot health.

Is your sister a major fan of high heels? You might want to remind her that wearing pointy-toed and/or toweringly-tall shoes are VERY bad for her feet. As I’ve pointed out more than once, these types of shoes can actually change the shape of your feet, leading to hammertoes and bunions.

It can also cause problems in ways that aren’t as immediately visible, like shortening the Achilles tendon that can, in turn, lead to persistent heel pain

Of course, if you don’t want to get all preachy on this day designed to stave off sibling rivalry, you could always just buy her a nice pair of great, supportive shoes that have a roomy toe box and are low heeled without being entirely flat (those characteristics make up the kind of shoe least likely to cause her foot pain.)

Oh—just one other thought. If your sis is already experiencing foot problems, set her up with an appointment to see me at Tanglewood Foot Specialists. It ‘s the least you can do for her after she’s put up with you for all these years!
