Good shoes saved this little girl from having her foot amputated!Think it doesn’t really matter what kind of shoes you put on your child’s feet? Well, this story might just change your mind!

A 12 year old girl from the UK recently was involved in a terrible hit-and-run accident that would have left her in need of a foot amputation—had it not been for the shoes she was wearing.

On the day in question, Phebe Hilliage was crossing the street in a crosswalk as a bus and several other cars stopped, waiting for her to make her way across the road. While those vehicles stood at a standstill, another car zipped around them and ran over Phebe’s foot!

The stunned girl sustained very serious injuries—a broken ankle and a shattered foot—and, while doctors have explained to her that she may never walk in quite the same way again, things could have been much, much worse.

They explained that, had she not been wearing Doc Marten boots, her injuries would have been severe enough to necessitate a foot amputation—thankfully their solidity shielded her foot from some of the blow of the accident, allowing her surgeons to save the limb.

Thankfully, most children will never be put in such a terrible situation, but this extreme example still proves the importance of good, supportive and protective footwear for our kids’ feet. If you have any concerns about your child’s developing feet, or your young one is experiencing foot pain or discomfort, schedule an appointment with Dr. Andrew Schneider so we can make sure they can walk, run and play happily once again.
