As people age, their bodies change. In the feet, the nails grow thicker, the skin gets drier and the joints become stiffer. This doesn't mean you feet have to hurt.

Many older people don't see well or have trouble reaching their feet. In some cases, after hip or knee replacements, reaching the feet is impossible.  If these problems prevent you from giving your feet the care they need let Dr. Schneider help you. Tanglewood Foot Specialists offers comprehensive foot care on a routine basis for those who need it.

Older folks often lose the padding that cushions their feet. This can lead to pain in the heel and ball of the foot. In most cases we can make an insert that makes up for the lost padding.

Circulation problems are a common effect of the aging process. Most commonly it is the venous system that becomes less efficient. This will cause persistent swelling in the lower extremity. This swelling is treated with compression hosiery. In more advanced venous insufficiency, skin discoloration and leg ulceration may occur. If you notice any of these changes, you should visit with your podiatrist immediately.

Defects in the arterial circulation may also be of concern. This can be damaged by disease, such as diabetes, or by tobacco smoking. The hallmark of arterial circulation deficiency is pain with prolonged walking, called claudication. If the circulation becomes worse, night pain and ulceration may result. If you are concerned that you may be experiencing any circulation problems, schedule a visit us as soon as possible
