Bad News for the Dallas Cowboys

Dez Bryant went down with a Jones fracture during the Cowboys opening week victoryEven as a transplanted New Yorker, I’ve got a lot of Texas pride, but as a Houston podiatrist and a HUGE football fan, the Texans will always come before the Cowboys, at least in my book.

So, I feel bad for our neighbors to the north about this news, but not as bad as if it happened to one of our boys…

After winning their first game this NFL season, the Cowboys took a hit when receiver Dez Bryant suffered a foot injury and had to undergo surgery.

Apparently, the star player broke the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot, an injury known as a Jones fracture that has plagued NBA players like Kevin Durant and Brooks Lopez in previous years.

Despite the difficulty in coming back from this injury (the break occurs near the base of the bone, where limited blood flow impedes healing) Bryant is staying positive. After coming out of surgery, he shared that the procedure “went great” and he “can’t wait to get back,” on the field.

Here’s hoping that the young athlete makes a quick and full recovery…and, in the meantime, Go Texans!
