A sweet keepsake of your child's feet is a perfect Valentine's Day giftFeb. 14 is right around the corner and what better way to remind your spouse or your child’s grandparents of how much you love them than by presenting them with a keepsake from your tiny treasure?

There’s something so special and poignant about a child’s little footprint. And have you ever noticed that, when put together, feet form the shape of a heart?

That’s the idea behind this Valentine’s Day Themed Salt Dough Heart Foot Print craft from Red Ted Art. Hope you enjoy!

Supplies

Salt dough (2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, up to 1 cup water)

Sharp Knife

Red Acrylic Paint

Black Marker

Clear Varnish or PVA Glue

Instructions

  1. First, make the salt dough, adding the flour and salt then slowly pouring in water. Roll out dough.
  2. Have your child make footprints in the dough with their heels touching and their toes pointing out (shaped like a heart.) Heels can overlap.
  3. Using your knife, cut the dough into the shape of a heart, leaving enough room around the foot prints to add a written saying later on.
  4. Leave out overnight to dry.
  5. Bake the dough at 125 degrees for 3-4 hours, checking regularly to make sure it doesn’t crack or burn.
  6. Let dough cool, then paint the foot prints.
  7. Using a black felt pen, write a loving saying or inscription around the foot prints. In the pictured project, they wrote, “I love you from the bottom of my heart to the tips of my toes.”
  8. When paint and ink are dry, seal with clear varnish or PVA glue.
