Duchess Camilla Thinks Podiatry is Cool (and so should you!)

The Duchess of Cornwall learns about podiatryI just found out something so cool—Camilla Parker Bowles, aka the Duchess of Cornwall, is the Patron of The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists in the U.K. As part of her patron duties, Camilla paid a visit last week to the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine, where she got to meet with podiatrists and their patients and see the difference this kind of medicine can make in people’s lives.

I often get asked what makes a podiatrist different—why shouldn’t a person just go see their primary care doctor for foot pain and related problems. Here’s how I like to think of it:

We’re all about specialists in this country. You have a break-out, you see a dermatologist. Heart problems? Head to the cardiologist, ASAP. Yet, for some reason, people tend to discount foot problems as something they can literally ‘walk off.’

I’m here to tell you: that is a mistake! Nothing is more important than your mobility, whether you depend on it for exercise, work, travelling, or simply playing in the yard with your kids. Foot or ankle pain can limit your ability to enjoy these important aspects of life. With so much at stake, wouldn’t you prefer to trust your feet to an expert in the area, a doctor whose sole (pardon the pun) focus of study has been the nerves, bones and muscles of your feet, toes and ankles?

My Houston podiatry practice is dedicated to keeping you walking comfortably. If you’ve been experiencing foot pain of any kind, I invite you to make like Camilla—come see me and find out what an experienced podiatrist can do to improve your health!
