I’m sure there are plenty of illnesses that make the Hollywood circuit, but this past week, a new one took hold—foot injuries! Both Madonna and Mark Wahlberg were seen hobbling along the streets of Tinsel town this week as they recovered from foot injuries.
First, there’s Madonna, the 55-year old music legend. She apparently bruised a bone in her foot when she went out dancing in high heels. While she’s on crutches for the next week or so, according to her reps, she’s vowed not to miss a minute of her regular workouts. Just days after sustaining her injury, Madonna shared a photo of herself on Twitter, working out at her gym with crutches. She captioned the picture of herself “Inventing a new workout on crutches,” with the hashtag #nothingcanstopme. It appears that the exercise routine involves Madge leaning on her crutches and doing high kicks.
Meanwhile, as Madonna engaged in workouts of questionable safety, former-rapper-turned-serious-actor Mark Wahlberg was seen limping around town as well. His right foot was encased in a cast, but according to his reps, he hadn’t broken any bones. They just explained that he’d had minor foot surgery the day before being photographed, without disclosing why the surgery had been performed.
Now, we all know that Hollywood has a different set of rules than the rest of the world, but as a Houston podiatrist, I’m still surprised by the lack of care that Madonna and Wahlberg are taking to heal their injuries. After a serious foot injury, and especially after foot surgery, one of the keys to recovery is following your doctor’s advice and getting ample rest. Staying off your foot as much as you can will also help control pain and hasten healing.
I don’t aim to be a podiatrist to the stars—I am your podiatrist, helping you and your feet stay healthy. If you are experiencing foot pain of any kind, come see me at Tanglewood Foot Specialists. But don’t expect me to let you work out while you’re still on crutches!
