And so I tried. I stretched, used oral anti inflammatory medication, low-dose oral steroids, and topical anti inflammatory medication with little improvement. Also, I already wear custom foot orthotic devices to help to reduce the mechanical load on my Achilles tendon.
I was then treated with a therapy known as EPAT, Exracorporeal Pulse Activated Technology. This painless (trust me...I'm a wimp when it comes to pain) therapy uses thousands of shockwaves over the course of under five minutes. The shockwaves stimulate the body's chemical processes to provide improved circulation and promote natural healing. Three treatments, once for three weeks, is the typical protocol. Guess what? My pain is gone!
We now have EPAT available in our Houston foot and ankle office. In addition to Achilles tendon pain, the therapy is effective for plantar fasciitis, Morton's neuroma, capsulitis, turf toe, posterior tibial tendonitis, bursitis, and many other musculoskeletal issues. If you feel that you're not improving with your current treatment, give us a call to see if you are a candidate for shockwave therapy with EPAT.
