More Bad Press for Ben Roethlisberger

Roethlisberger made headlines for his devastating ankle sprainPittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is no stranger to making headlines…even though the star has settled a lawsuit relating to rape allegations in 2008, his name is still a familiar one in most newspapers.

Well, Roethlisberger is once again in the news for a not-so-pleasant reason, and this time it could affect his career and his team’s season! After getting sacked in this weekend’s match-up against the Oakland Raiders, the QB grabbed his foot in pain and had to be escorted off the field.

Initially, team doctors feared he had a Lisfranc injury—in which the metatarsal bones of the foot become dislocated—but fortunately for Big Ben, it seems he has merely suffered a mid-foot sprain.

Now it becomes a good-news/bad-news situation: he’ll likely miss this Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, but won’t miss the entire season, which would have been the case had he suffered the more serious injury.

Dealing with sports injuries is never easy—you have to balance rest time with allegiance to your team. As a Houston podiatrist, I always put primary emphasis on the athlete’s personal wellbeing, not the winning record of his or her team.
