While the rest of the world avidly follows every step of Kevin Durant’s recovery from surgery for a broken foot, fans of the University of Houston Cougars have a little more to stress about this week.
Point-guard L.J Rose, who averaged 8.9 points and 5.5 assists last season, broke his foot and will be out at least until Christmas. Ironically, his struggle is the same as Durant’s, Cougars’ coach Kelvin Sampson revealed, although Rose will obviously not get the same national media attention as the Oklahoma City Thunder star is receiving.
Yesterday, Sampson told CBS Sports, “"If we get (Rose) back before Christmas, it's a great Christmas gift. It's the same foot injury that Kevin Durant had. It's frustrating because it didn't take long to figure out when I got the job in April that he was the key to make this work. He was a pass-first, pass-second point guard."
As a Houston podiatrist and a staunch supporter of hometown athletes, I wish Rose a speedy recovery and invite anyone dealing with a sports injury of the foot or ankle to schedule an appointment with me at Tanglewood Foot Specialists.
