Why Is Fall Prevention So Important?

Over the past few months, we have made a concerted effort to identify patients who are at risk for falls. In truth, this is a "red alert" situation in Houston and nationwide. Someone's "first fall" can be devastating to their quality of life and can even lead to their death. It can end mobility as they know it and can quickly transition a spouse or child into a caregiver role.

I work with SafeStep, a company that deals with various types of mobility-related products, such as fracture walkers, diabetic shoes, and braces. Their owner is a podiatrist who I know well and, knowing my focus on fall prevention, asked me to write a post for his blog to educate my colleagues about fall prevention and why it is so important for the care of their patients.
