It has not been a good couple of years for former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi. Back in 2013, he was given a seven-year suspended jail sentence for tax fraud (that verdict was later appealed and over-turned, and he was ordered to do community service instead.)
Tomorrow, Italy’s top appeals court will begin hearing testimony in a case in which he s accused of soliciting sex from a minor; the court could rule him to be innocent or guilty; or order him to stand trial once more.
As if all that weren’t bad enough for the embattled former European leader, the 78-year old just broke his foot!
Apparently, as Berlusconi was getting out of his car, he placed his foot in an odd position and suffered a small fracture, meaning he will likely be dependent on crutches or an immobilizing foot when he goes before the judges who will decide his fate.
There are many lessons one can learn from Mr. Berlusconi, but the family-friendly one this Houston podiatrist will focus on is this: the older you get, the more fragile your bones become, leaving you susceptible to fractures while doing even the simplest of tasks.
It is crucial to protect your bone health as you age, and to address and injuries, no matter how minor they may seem, at the first sign of foot pain.
If you are experiencing discomfort in your foot, toe or ankle, schedule an appointment with Dr. Andrew Schneider immediately. Doing so could protect you from unknowingly walking around on a broken bone!
