A common question that I am asked at our Houston podiatry office is whether nail polish can be used during treatment for toenail fungus. The answer depends on the type of treatment used to eliminate the fungal infection. If you are treated with an oral medication, such as Lamisil, then the toenails can be polished. If a topical medication, such as Formula 3, is used, then polish should be avoided.
If toenails must be polished, I recommend using a healthier toenail polish, such as Dr's Remedy, which does not have the damaging chemicals that many polishes have. The nail polish also has natural antifungals and vitamins.
