A heel spur is a protrusion of bone caused by the pulling of a ligament on the heel bone. It is a very common reason to visit a Houston podiatrist, foot doctor, and surgeon. Very often, however, it is not the heel spur that is the direct cause of the heel pain. Most cases are caused by the inflammation of the ligament attaching to the heel spur, known as plantar fasciitis.
