A few months ago, sleazy talk-show-host-turned Fox News anchor Geraldo Rivera announced that he was suing a hospital that had messed up his foot during a botched back surgery.

Following this monumental declaration, Geraldo treated his nearly 50,000 followers to a play-by-play of before and after pictures of his gnarled foot, which he claims was messed up as a result of an improperly performed back surgery that he underwent at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

On New Year’s Eve, Rivera tweeted, “Getting ready for surgery on foot ruined by [Hospital for Special Surgery].” He was also kind enough to share a picture of his oddly bent and swollen toe.

Following the surgery, the public was lucky enough to get another update: “Patient is in reasonably good spirits despite hair riot,” with a picture of himself that proved his tweet to be quite accurate. Later in the day, he told us all that he was, “On the mend,” and shared a photo of himself wearing a foot brace.

While Geraldo is known for being dramatic, foot surgery is a serious procedure that, if done incorrectly, can leave you incapacitated. Just as Geraldo claims his back surgery went awry, a botched foot, toe or ankle procedure can result in many complications and may lead to further surgeries down the road.

At Tanglewood Foot Specialists, Houston Podiatrist Dr. Andrew Schneider is specially trained to perform foot, toe and ankle operations so that procedures go smoothly. Although we always try to avoid operations, if you need to have surgery, put your feet in the hands of an expert so that you don’t find yourself live-tweeting the results of a bungled surgical procedure.
