The Mysterious Case of Zayn Malik’s Foot Injury

Fans are wondering what kind of foot injury put Zayn Malik in a wheelchair, but he's keeping tight-lipped on the issue Zayn Malik (the former One Direction band member who struck out on a solo career before finding love with young Hollywood mega-star Gigi Hadid) is once again taking the Social Media world by storm—but for once, it has nothing to do with his career or personal life.

This past week, Malik was seen being rolled into Hadid’s apartment in a wheelchair. Though he wasn’t wearing a cast, bandage or other supportive device, his opted against wearing his left shoe, leaving his blue-and-white sock on display…and raising a whole lot of questions.

Malik’s rep released the following statement: “‘Zayn has injured his foot but is doing well and will be okay.” But the questions of how he hurt himself and the nature of his injury remain unanswered.

For my part, as a Houston podiatrist, I can easily rule out a sprain or fracture, as either of these injuries would likely require immobilization of the injured foot.

Online speculators suggested he may be suffering from an ingrown toenail, which could cause a lot of foot pain and wouldn’t require immobilization, but likely wouldn’t have left him wheelchair-bound (unless treatment was neglected for a long time and an infection developed.)

So, after careful analysis and a longer time spent pondering Malik’s condition than I ever thought possible, I’m left with this as the most likely diagnosis: the guy either stubbed his toe or dropped something on his foot, got a bad bruise that makes wearing shoes uncomfortable and opted for a wheelchair because he loves the drama and the photo op that decision creates.
